Morning everyone. We’re currently working with an architect on plans to convert a vaulted barn and outbuildings attached to our house

The area circled in blue is currently my husband’s office which will move to the current kitchen in the house.

In the original part of the house we have a couple of living spaces, a kitchen which will become an office, a utility room, toilet and a pantry (which will move over to the new area)

We’re at a loss what to do with this space so it doesn’t just feel like a walk through to the barn area.

Does anyone have any creative ideas? The architect suggested a wine cellar but that’s not really our thing.

How big is it? Do you have lots of books? Could it be a library space? You could have bookshelves either side of the window as it looks like an alcove. If the window could be bigger maybe add a window seat between the shelves? Without knowing how big that space or the window is it’s tricky, but maybe something like these pics:

What a lovely share. If you can spare the space it looks like there’s a nice view from there. So I think a reading zone with armchair – would be lovely. My parents had a hall library in their house – turned the hall into a space people would stop in

What do you and your family do as a hobby or what lifestyle do you want to entertain? Can you use the space for that? If you would like a place to do yoga pilates, rowing, spinning, that could be it! Along with a library wall snug corner to read, mediate, and hammock chairs you can remove for floor space when you need it. Possibilities are endless

there is just me and my wife. The challenge is that this room will need to be walked through to get to the barn conversion.

I’m liking the idea of a snug/library though

I’m seeing a fancy dumping zone too. I’m not completely sure to understand the flow of the space but would it make sense to have some sort of boot room with beautiful storage? If you have a dog, they’d love for their bed to be put where they can watch the front door AND the dining table at once. Maybe it’s there? Agree it can be many different things. You can leave it and see later what you need it for, once the bigger pieces are done. Good luck!
