  • What’s your experience of underfloor heating

Wondering about others experience with this one please. My friend has just had underfloor heating installed with a 60-70mm sand and cement screed.

They have been given a few differing opinions on drying time before putting heating on and laying LVT flooring. Worst is 70 days (1 day per mm screed)!

Is this everyone’s experience? Obviously they would rather do it quicker but don’t want to cause issues.

    Thank you!

1 day per mm is what I’ve heard from You Tubers etc. And when you turn it on its something like 1 degree per day??? Not ideal in this weather!

Oh dear – that is long then!! I’ll tell them. The last thing they want is the floor coming up or cracking underneath.

There is a different chemical compound that can be used to speed up drying time. We used it and didn’t have any issues. Just ask the supplier and if they don’t offer it, ring around others and find one who does x

I mm per day is standard from what I found. I had to wait 77 – my installer came out and put down testers and came almost every day to check readings to ensure it was in the right range before they would prep and lay the LVT. Mine was done last month. They also put down a damp membrane for a little extra as our numbers were a little off in one section to be sure. I will stress to find a reputable LVT installer and do it right. I had a friend who had an issue and her whole floor lifted during the first year after installation and it was 7 years with court process to get it made right. No one deserves that!

I am sure you can start to heat it gradually whatever the mix. Soils will be at around 12 degrees at the moment. I would set this and then week on week very gently raise by a couple of degrees.
