We are looking for a specialist architect in eco makeovers of older homes, operating in the Thanet area. We are looking to improve air tightness and insulation to get as close to Enerphit standards as possible, plus installing MHRV, grey-water recycling, rainwater capture, solar panels and possibly a ground-source heat pump.

Also looking for a garden designer who isn’t just interested in designing fancy hard landscaping but can advise me what to plant where.

    Any recommendations?

Find a retrofit assessor who understands the needs of old buildings (pre 1930s). Because of the way old houses were built, airtightness and insulation are tricky to get right if you’re to avoid mould and damp so it’s important to find someone who understands the physics of heritage buildings.

We do design to EnerPhit standard but are London based so may not be the right practice for you. I would contact RIBA and get a list of practices in your area that are skilled in sustainable retrofit/certified PassiveHouse designers. Note that getting a contractor that can deliver the required details/material choices will also be very important to limit the performance gap.

With ENERphit standards you will need a passivehaus designer/architect ideally as a start in order to start also monitoring the property pre any work commencing.

They should be at the core of your project! I would start with the passivehaus trust ! I will ask around for who covers your area and look into this for you but there are a number of good people in your area.
