Got an industrial unit as a workplace that we lease and looking to get solar and batteries. Roof size is around 232 square metres but does have skylight windows, so probably around 216 square metres of useable space. Giving a 15% buffer for spacing etc… I’d worked out I should be able to get 108 panels fitted, does that sound about right?

We use around 10,000 kWh a year, so don’t think we’d need that, so was thinking of being more conservative with 40 panels as a starting point and maybe 30kWh of batteries.

What should I be looking at price wise?

Also, anyone know anyone doing 0% finance? I’d rather keep my money in my bank instead of spending out a huge chunk at once.

    Thanks in advance.

Get a structural engineer to verify weight capacity of the roof.

Current panels are 450W so 40 panels would be 18kW. Will generate around 15,000kWh per year if south-facing.

You will need DNO permission for an inverter (either 15kW on one phase or 3x6kW spread across 3 phases, or one 3-phase inverter).

So check out what the roof can bear and what inverter capacity you can connect. Your current proposed array is larger than you need for the business so make sure it makes sense to tie up the money and get it back through export payments.

Fogstar for the batteries, city plumbing for the panels and inverter.

Can check the price for parts then find someone to install, or go full installer and pay way more.

Go on YouTube go to Wokingham Borough Council climate scrutiny meeting of this week.

The first item is about a team who do exactly what you want in Reading already. Its very interesting and you can get a name and contact number.

Have you thought of cooperating with Big Solar Coop?

They are in the business of getting solar panels on factory type roofs and are looking for new opportunities. Might be worth doing some research on their business model.
