    Looking for advice please.

We’ve had the ceiling taken down to put modern standard insulation in.

Wondering if we should leave these supporting beams exposed and have the new ceiling follow the line of the roof.

Hubby and builders all think it’ll look too busy as the beams are too close together and just ordinary planks (not lovely wooden beams like you might see in an old pub etc).

I’m not ready to agree with them yet and would love other people’s perspective please. If you all agree with them then I’d feel happier about giving in

So we did exactly the same I blooming love it. It’s toasty warm as we used insulation board still.

Keep keep keep!!! Adds so much character. I’ve put fake oak beams into our bedroom and would love the same in the kitchen but just too spenny! 100% KEEP

I think they’ll look lovely exposed, and with some clever lighting you could really showcase them in the finished room

I would cover them up as they’re not ornamental and whenever I see exposed beams I see cobwebs and spiders!!

Definitely keep and if later down the line you don’t like them you can always then put the ceiling back but if you just cover them you will always wander.

I think it will look fabulous

I agree with them I’m afraid. Builder grades joists just aren’t attractive. I actually think it’ll devalue your room, make it look all a bit 70s, not in a good way. Plus lower ceilings = so, so much warmer.

I think keep, it gives character. I have a loft room and kept beams and chimney breast exposed. Loads of cleaning and sanding but worth it.

I’m not a fan of the all boxed in clean minimal look.
