We plan on having our fd30 door to the loft at the bottom of the loft stairs. I’m trying as much as possible to save space here as it is eating into one of the bedrooms. As far as I understand, the building regulations say that the landing needs to be the length of the door swing plus 400mm – have I got that right?

Does anyone know the minimum space I need for the landing/leave at the bottom of the stairs if –

    1. there is a pocket sliding door?

    2. the door opens outwards?

    Thanks!

Do you still need a fire door if you have mains powered fire alarm?

I thought that the regs were definitely having a wired in smoke and fire alarm system as well as having fire doors?

You’ll need to check, we were ok with mains alarms BUT were just renovating with an existing loft conversion from the ’90s.
